Times of India Oct 23, 2018

Dr. Parimal Sarda, a Pathologist from Ahmedabad donated his stem cells to save the life of a 11-year old thalassemia-major patient.

The 39-year old doctor who works at Vedanta Hemato Oncology Clinic mentioned that he decided to become a donor after witnessing the suffering that young cancer and thalassemia patients experience. The recipient's and the doctor's cells showed a ten-on-ten match, a month after Dr. Sarda had registered as a stem cell donor. He was given growth factors to increase the peripheral blood stem cells, after which they were retrieved by Dr. Sandeep Shah, Hematooncologist and Transplant Physician at Vedanta and Gujarat Cancer Research Institute.
