Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels in hospitalized adults with community-acquired pneumonia

The Clinical Respiratory Journal Apr 26, 2018

Brance ML, et al. - Given several studies have shown an association between vitamin D deficiency and increased susceptibility to respiratory tract infections, researchers assessed the serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) levels in hospitalized adults in general room with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). In this observational study, males had higher 25OHD. A correlation of 25OHD with age as well as with CURB65 index, Charlson comorbidity index (CCI), and with the 10 years of life expectative (%) was demonstrated. Higher 25OHD were found with lower CCI. Overall, lower 25OHD levels were exhibited by hospitalized adults with CAP and these would be associated with the severity of CAP.
