Meta-analyses identify differentially expressed microRNAs in Parkinson's disease

Annals of Neurology Apr 20, 2019

Schulz J, et al. - By performing a systematic literature search for microRNA expression studies relative to Parkinson's disease (PD) and extracted data from suitable publications, researchers found microRNAs that with consistent differential expression across all published studies. They identified 47 datasets appropriate for meta-analysis (performed using effect-size and p-value based methods, as applicable) after screening 599 publications. The most compelling findings concerned hsa-miR-132-3p, hsa-miR-497-5p, and hsa-miR-133b in brain, and with hsa-miR-221-3p, hsa-miR-214-3p, and hsa-miR-29c-3p in blood. The authors concluded that several microRNAs that showed highly significant differential expression in PD were identified. There were no significant signals in cerebrospinal fluid.
