American Journal of Ophthalmology Apr 22, 2019

Buys YM, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, authors compared the influence of age, gender, and generation on physician practice patterns in Ontario, Canada using physician and patient data from 1992-2013 and calculated the yearly number of physicians, distinct patients seen, patient visits, government payments, physician age, gender, specialty and year of birth. Compared to older cohorts, younger cohorts of Ontario physicians had higher yearly payments at the same age despite similar or slightly less number of visits and patients. They also noted significant sex gap of payments for all physicians and ophthalmologists and mostly defined by differences in the number of patients and visits for family physicians.
