Journal of Asthma May 06, 2020

Bedolla-Barajas M, Morales-Romero J, Fonseca-Lopez JC, et al. - This study was conducted to ascertain how often anxiety and depression was seen in adult patients with asthma and what factors were correlated with this link. Researchers conducted a cross-sectional study with 164 consecutively patients with asthma who were ≥ 18 years old. Individuals were clinically evaluated and mental state was assessed through of the Beck Anxiety Inventory and the Beck Depression Inventory II. The Asthma Control Test was assessed, and allergic sensitization and respiratory function were also examined. Study findings indicate that more than half of all asthmatic individuals suffer from anxiety (54.3%) and depression (50.6%). While depression was correlated with both obesity and anxiety, well-controlled asthma and allergic sensitization reduced the likelihood of anxiety.
