Post malleable penile prosthesis satisfaction in elderly patients: Serial assessments

Andrologia Sep 17, 2019

Ali AI, El-Dakhakhny A, Gabr AH, et al. - The possible implication of age on satisfaction after malleable penile implant surgery was examined in elderly patients. Postoperative sexual satisfaction in the elderly was compared with that of a younger age group (reference group). Patients were classified into three groups according to their ages (group I < 45, group II between 45 and 65, and group III older than 65 years old). Modified Erectile Dysfunction Inventory of Treatment Satisfaction (EDITS) questionnaire at 3, 6 and 12 months after implant surgery showed statistically significant high satisfaction rates in all age groups. Younger groups vs elderly patients had higher EDITS scores in the early postoperative period. However, at 12 months postoperatively, groups had no significant difference in EDITS scores. Results thereby suggest a high postoperative satisfaction rate among elderly patients that was close to that of younger age groups, and hence elderly are suitable candidates for penile implant surgery with good and realistic postoperative sexual satisfaction expectations.
