International Journal of General Medicine Aug 30, 2019

Ahmadzadeh J, et al. - A total of 107 cases of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), comprising 18 deaths, were enrolled in this study by the experts in order to represent the prevailing epidemiological status of MERS-CoV globally in the first three months of 2019. The overall mean age was 50 ± 17 years and 80 patients were male. The average time from the onset of the symptoms to the first hospitalization, from the first hospitalization to laboratory confirmation, from the onset of symptom to death, and the mean length of hospitalization for patients with MERS-CoV was 3 ± 3.3, 3.6 ± 6.5, 17.5 ± 11.7, and 3.5 ± 3.9 days, respectively. Males, compared females had a 1.5fold heightened likelihood of death associated with MERS-CoV infection. In comparison with other people, healthcare workers had 2.4fold higher odds of death. Hence, the knowledge gained from this study can contribute to the development of a prevention program and early system informing against MERS-CoV infection.
