Renowned Pune spine surgeon killed in road accident

Dr. Ketan Khurjekar, Head of Department of Spine Surgery at Sancheti Hospital was killed after being hit by a speeding bus on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway near Talegaon on September 15.

The 44-year old doctor was traveling along with two other doctors and his driver, returning from a conference in Mumbai. They had stopped the car on the side of the expressway at 10.30 pm to change a punctured tyre. Just around this time, a speeding bus crashed into the car from behind killing the doctor and the driver. The other two doctors traveling with Dr. Ketan have been identified as Dr. Jayesh Parwar and Dr. Pramod Bhillare. Both sustained severe head injuries and are undergoing treatment.

Dr. Ketan Khujrekar was an awardee of 'Global Scholarship' from the Scoliosis Research Society. He had also performed over 3500 spine surgeries in his career and had expertise in microsurgical techniques and Spinal Deformity Correction.
