Himachal Pradesh Government on 28th August informed the state assembly that it has ordered a probe in woman’s death allegedly due to shock after seeing her Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) report prepared by a private clinic which incorrectly diagnosed her HIV positive.
The issue was figured in the state assembly when Rohru Congress MLA Mohan Lal Brakta raised it after the Question Hours under Point of Order. Responding to the query, the CM said director of health services would be directed to probe the matter after looking into the incident and submit a report in this regard within a fortnight. The matter is very sensitive, strict action would be taken against the private clinic for preparing wrong HIV positive report, Mr Thakur said and added that after getting the inquiry report and compensation to the deceased woman’s family would be provided as per rules.
Earlier raising the issue, the Congress MLA demanded strict action against the private clinic of Rohru subdivision in Shimla districtt. He also sought adequate compensation for the deceased 22-year-old woman’s family. The MLA stated that the woman died at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) Shimla on Tuesday due to suffering from severe mental and emotional shock after she had come to know about her “HIV positive” report prepared by the private clinic.
Mr Brakta stated that the Rohru woman had gone to the private clinic a few days ago for her checkup due to an ailment. Her tests were conducted at the private clinic and the reports of the tests were submitted to her without informing her its contents. Later she went to the government-run Kamla Nehru Hospital (KNH) in Shimla for her treatment where her husband was told about the “HIV positive” report prepared by the private clinic and she was asked to undergo fresh tests for confirming the same.
Subsequently, when the woman came to know about her “HIV positive” report, she instantly went into deep coma due to severe mental distress. At this, she was shifted to IGMC where she later died. Ironically, her fresh test report conducted at the government hospital stated that she was not HIV positive.
