The opposition leader in Kerala Assembly on June 6 demanded action against those who was responsible for the death of a 62-year-old man after he was denied treatment by two private hospitals and the Government Medical College at Kottayam.
In a letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the Opposition leader said the man suffering from fever and breathing problem was denied treatment by the doctors of the two hospitals and government medical college. Meanwhile, police registered cases against the doctors for unintentional homicide and denial of treatment, following a complaint from the daughter of the victim. The man hailing from Idukki was turned away by two hospitals and medical college on the pretext of non-availability of ventilators.
Though he was brought to Kottayam Medical College, he died after a couple of hours following the denial of admission in the other two private hospitals. Later, Health Minister and the Medical Education Director have initiated a probe into the lapses from the side of hospital authorities. Ms Shailaja said action would be taken against hospital authorities in this regard.
