The state government has been working to set up new blood banks and trauma care centres across the state considering the demand, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has said in the Assembly.

Replying to CPI (M) MLA Nirmal Biswas, Mr Deb, who also holds the health portfolio, said the government has decided to establish four new blood banks in Teliamura Sub-divisional Hospital in Khowai, Kanchanpur Sub-divisional Hospital in North Tripura, Amarpur Sub-divisional Hospital in Gomati and in Sabroom Sub-divisional Hospital in South Tripura districts.

Also, the government has decided to build four new trauma care centres at Dhalai district hospital, Dharmanagar in North district, Udaipur Sub-divisional Hospital in Gomati and Shantirbazar Sub-divisional Hospital in South Tripura.
At present Tripura is having as many as 11 government and two private blood banks and one trauma care centre in GB Pant government hospital, he said.

After BJP-IPFT government was formed in the state, a total of 42,158 units of blood were collected through voluntary donation camps, which accounts for 85 per cent of the total collection, while the remaining15 per cent supply was made through replacement donation, Deb added.

“We are working hard to develop quality healthcare service, with the aim to attract people from neighbouring states and the country. There is quality infrastructure in the state but we are suffering from shortage of specialist doctors. The government is working on a holistic model to reach the goal within a short span,” Deb stated.
