More than 150 people fell ill due to waterborne diseases like diarrhoea, vomiting in a dozen of villages of Shahpur assembly segment and daily nearly a dozen such patients report in Shahpur Civil hospital.

Kewal Singh Pathania, General Secretary Himachal Pradesh Congress committee after visiting some villages of Shahpur on Sunday told UNI that more than 150 patients in last two weeks were admitted in Shahpur Hospital due to waterborne diseases and claimed that contaminated water through water supply scheme has led to the problem.

He said that the disease has spread in villages of Chattri, Dobh, Saddun, Manjgran and alleged that Civil Hospital Shahpur was under staffed and heavy work load as two doctors were working round the clock. Mr Pathania said that he had written a letter to Health Minister Vipin Singh Parmar that hospital needs more staff to work under these circumstances. Block Medical officer Shahpur Dr Mohan Singh confirmed a dozen patients are still trickling in the OPD. He said that patients were admitted and discharged after the treatment and patients were reported from Tuliani and Drehni too.

BMO said that situation was under control and there was no causality and not even a single case was referred to other hospitals. Chief Medical Officer Kangra Dr Gurdharshan Gupta told UNI that the patients from the affected villages were treated at Shahpur and people were advised to use boiled water and keep good hygiene to avoid further spread of the diseases.

Kewal Singh Pathaina demanded that an expert medical team from Tanda medical college be deputed to Shahpur and IPH authorities should retreat the water so that the diseases gets controlled from spreading.
