Mobile medical vans from Kotak Life, Wockhardt for the poor

Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Company Ltd (Kotak Life), along with Wockhardt Foundation, launched four mobile medical vans (MMVs) Bangalore on 26th August for the underprivileged.
The vans were unveiled under the Kotak Lifes flagship CSR programme on healthcare 'Life First', said a statement jointly issued by Kotak Life and Wockhardt. The MMVs are primary health centres (PHC) on wheels, which would be managed by Kotak Lifes partner-NGO Wockhardt Foundation, it said. Each van would offer free basic medical services like awareness, diagnosis, cure and referrals tothe underprivileged people in and around the city, it said.
The MMV would have a doctor, a pharmacist, a programme coordinator/social worker and a driver, it said. The van would extend preventive and curative medicines to patients, and those who require further treatment would be referred by doctors to the nearest government healthcare bodies - primary health centres (PHCs) or hospitals.
"Each MMV aims to treat over 60 patients from the slums of Bengaluru per day, and thereby touch the lives of about 22,500 patients annually. Each MMV has a GPS tracker will be be monitored by Wockhardt Foundations CSR programme office," the statement said.
Managing director and chief executive officer of Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Company Ltd G Murlidhar was quoted as saying in the release: "Our CSR programme for healthcare - 'Life First' - gives us an opportunity to serve people living in the impoverished pockets of Bengaluru who are in need of basic healthcare facilities."
