Medical intern stipend increased to Rs. 11,000; strike called off

The indefinite strike called by medical interns across Maharashtra was reportedly called off on June 20, when the State Medical Education Minister Girish Mahajan assured to hike stipend from Rs 6000 to Rs 11,000 within two months, sources said.


According to sources, a meeting between Mahajan and striking interns was held on June 20 and the Minister assured that the stipend would be hiked from Rs 6000 to Rs 11,000 within a couple of months. Mr Mahajan also assured that no actions would be taken against the doctors who took part in the strike, sources said.

Around 2700 medical interns from 18 various medical colleges in the state under the banner of Association of State Medical Interns Maharashtra had started their indefinite strike since June 13, demanding a hike in their stipend as the current stipend of Rs 6,000 per month, is very low, sources added.
