Infant deaths: BJP Fact Finding Team visits Kalaburagi Hospital

The BJP Fact Finding Team formed to study the reasons for increase death of infants in Government hospitals in the State headed by former Minister and BJP State General Secretary S Suresh Kumar visited the Government Hospital here on 31st August 2017.  

 

 

 

Speaking to newsmen after the visit, he expressed shock over a few ventilators available in the hospital and acute shortage of Surfactant injection which is necessary for providing breathing treatment for new born low weighing baby. Stating that lack of Surfactant injection is the main cause of frequent deaths of new born, he urged the government to provide all necessary instruments and medicines to the hospital immediately. 

Mr Kumar alleged that as many as 85 newborn had died in Davanagere during April and June this year, which accounted for 41.87 per cent of the number of newborns. Likewise, 74 newborns died in Kalaburagi, 63 in Raichur, 58 in Dharwad and 54 in Belagavi during the above period. 21 newborn children died in Kolar during the same period while three died within the city corporation limits, He said that it is not becoming of the Medical Education Minister to have so many infants dead in his home constituency. 

He advised that care should be taken to repeat the tragedy. The usual Caesarean cases are 25 per cent but in Kalaburagi hospital it is 55 per cent, he observed. Mr Kumar alleged that the infant death rate increasing in the  Government hospitals because of acute shortage of life saving injection Surfactant. He urged the government to release more fund for purchase of  Surfactant injection and recruit sufficient Staff Nurses
