Indo-US-UK conclave on kidney and foot complications held

The First Indo-US-UK conclave on Kidney and Foot complications, organised by the Diabetic Foot Research India and supported by the M V Hospital for Diabetes Royapuram, was inaugurated in Chennai on 7th September.

The theme of the two-day conclave was preserving the kidney and protecting the feet in diabetes. This conclave will have a brainstorming session among experts from India, US and UK on how to prevent kidney failure and amputation among people with diabetes. Ten experts from the US and UK along with 300 doctors from India were participating in the conclave. Speaking at the inauguration, Dr Vijay Viswanathan, Head and Chief Diabetologist M V Hospital for Diabetes Royapuram, highlighted the
work done for the past 30 years at the hospital in Kidney and Foot clinic and presented the work done to prevent kidney failure and amputation.

A document on Prevention of Amputation and kidney failure due to diabetes by early diagnosis for primary care physicians was released by Prof Andrew Boulton President Elect of the International Diabetes Federation, who was presented with the 34th Prof M Viswanathan Gold Medal Oration Award 2019. The award comprised a gold medal and a citation. Dr Vijay Viswanathan said this document will help rural physicians to make an early diagnosis of the kidney and foot complications in diabetes and prevent kidney failure and amputation among people in the rural areas.
