Incentives for Odisha doctors approved

IANS Aug 04, 2018

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on August 3 approved incentives for doctors of the Odisha Medical Health Services Cadre.

Doctors with super specialisation from medical colleges recognised by Medical Council of India (MCI) will get an incentive of Rs 30,000 per month, a statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said. Similarly, doctors with a post-graduation degree from a medical college recognized by MCI will get Rs 20,000 per month and doctors with a post-graduation diploma recognised by the state government will get Rs 10,000.

The eligible doctors appointed in peripheral areas including district headquarters hospitals will get the benefit, said an official from the health department.  However, the doctors appointed in medical colleges would not get the incentives, he added. The move is to retain them in peripheral areas in the state.  "The incentive will cover over and above the previous incentives such as place-based incentives. However, these incentives are not linked to any post and purely based on required qualification," said the CMO statement.

The state government is providing place-based incentive to doctors to retain them in inaccessible areas. The government had earlier announced 100% incentives for the medicos posted in medical colleges set up in KBK (Kalahandi-Bolangir-Koraput) and KBK-plus region and 25 percent for other areas - at least 100 km from the existing medical colleges set up before 2017. Those in the KBK and KBK Plus areas have been categorised under Zone-I and the others situated at least 100 km from the existing medical colleges established prior to 2017 have been categorised under Zone-II.
