Doctor says there are no non-smokers in Delhi, installs artificial lungs as proof
Firstpost Nov 13, 2018
To prove how bad Delhi's air pollution is Dr. Arvind Kumar, Chairman of the Centre of Chest Surgery at Sri Ganga Ram Hospital has installed a giant pair of artificial lungs outside the hospital.
The artificial lungs have been created using HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filters that are normally used to filter air inside the operation theatres. They were also fitted with fans to imitate the functioning of human lungs. However, six days later the lungs turned completely dark. Dr. Kumar mentioned that the lungs began changing colour in just 24 hours and by 6 days they became completely dark. Delhi's PM 2.5 levels are higher than 200, which is equal to smoking 10 cigarettes in a day. This indirectly means that everyone in Delhi is a smoker. Breathing is killing, the doctor said.
