The West Bengal Government on August 6 announced launching a COVID-19 Patient Management System (CPMS).

The system would enable anyone to receive continuous updated health report of the patients at both government and private hospitals in the state. The State Chief Secretary said the CPMS is one it's kind in the country where one can access the patient's updated health report by just a click. The initiative was taken amid reports of complaints from patients of not getting the latest health bulletin following restricted entry in COVID-19 hospitals. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 toll in Bengal rose to 1902 on August 6 with 56 more deaths and the confirmed cases touched 86,754 with 2954 new cases. According to the latest State Government Health Bulletin, the count of discharged accounted for 61,023 with 2061 recovering in the past 24 hours.
The discharge rate stood at 70.34 percent. The count of active cases stood at 23,829. The total number of samples tested accounted for 10,28,251 with 25,224 tested on August 6. Meanwhile, the veteran CPI(M) leader passed away due to COVID-19 on August 6 afternoon. He was 76 and is survived by his actress daughter. He tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata since July 30.
