Chief minister institutes annual award in the name of “Suraj” to encourage organ donation

Chief minister on 11th November announced to institute an annual award in the name of 'Suraj' who saved the lives of six persons after death.
Suraj has become an inspiring story for millions of Odisha he said while announcing the award in his name to encourage organ donation. A resident of Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district, Suraj who was working in Surat lost his life after facing an unfortunate fatal road accident on October 29 last. After struggling for about 5-6 days in hospital,Suraj was declared brain dead on November 2 by the doctors. His parents were contacted by a local NGO and they decided to donate his organs to save lives of others.
Accordingly, his Heart, Liver, two Kidneys and both the Eyes were transplanted to save lives of six persons. Suraj ‘s Heart was carried by plane to Fortis Hospital in Mumbai and was transplanted in the body of a woman. Both his Kidneys and the Liver were transplanted into three persons in Ahamadabad and the two Eyes went to two persons in Surat. Suraj’s father Babuli Sethi and mother Gitanjali Sethi on 11th November met Chief Minister at Lok Seva Bhawan he who highly appreciated their noble act and said, this will be an exemplary inspiration to society.
The chief minister announced a homestead land and Biju Pucca Ghar for them. He also announced an assistance of Rs.5 lakh from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund as a recognition for their inspiring humane act.
