Chhattisgarh to enact special law to protect medic fraternity

UNI Sep 10, 2019

A special law will be enacted in Chhattisgarh for protection of doctors and medical staff from any form of violence, state government said on 8th September.

Health Minister has instructed health department secretary to constitute a committee at the earliest to prepare a draft of the law. The committee will prepare the draft of new law within a month and submit it to the government. Demand for the law to protect doctors and other medical staff in hospitals has been raised time and again by doctors and various medical associations. Initiative for enactment of this law is being taken in view of the recent incidents of assault on doctors in Chhattisgarh, North-East India, West Bengal and several other places.

After preparation of the draft by the committee a bill for the special law would be brought in the next session of Chhattisgarh legislative assembly.
