Times of India Dec 01, 2018
A recent study conducted by a group of Diabetologists- Dr. Sunil Gupta, Dr. Kavitha Gupta, and Dr. Sachin Gathe and presented at a conference in Ahmedabad last week have reported the incidence of protein deficiency Diabetes Mellitus in certain populations in Central India.
The paper highlighted the main features and presentation of alcoholic and non-alcoholic pancreatic diabetes among 585 of the 32900 records that were assessed by the team. Researchers found that for non-alcoholic related pancreatic diabetes, obesity and protein deficiency seemed to be the major causative factors Patients of PDDM (protein deficiency diabetes mellitus) had low BMI, a negative family history of diabetes, came from poorer socio-economic backgrounds, and were low on C-peptide. They also primarily exhibited severe NKH (nonketotic hyperglycemia), a body condition which makes it impossible to break down and process protein.
