Bengaluru doctor cheated and raped by fraud suitor

Times of India Dec 05, 2018

A 40-year old Bengaluru doctor was raped on the promise of marriage and she and her friends cheated of Rs. 26 lakhs.

The man befriended the doctor through a matrimonial advertisement the woman posted in a local daily. The man expressed an interest in marrying her and the two met at a mall in Bengaluru in September. He pretended to be a medical officer and even offered to help her friends land jobs in the state health department. After being introduced to the doctor's friends and relatives looking for jobs, the man collected around Rs. 22 lakhs from them and Rs. 4 lakhs from the doctor.

The accused then collected the doctor's Aadhar card and other documents mentioning that he needed them for registering the marriage. He also convinced the doctor to enter into a sexual relationship with him. The doctor mentioned that the wedding was due to take place on November 22 but his phone was switched off from November 20. This was when the woman decided to lodge a complaint and did so on November 30. The man is still absconding.
