Alld HC instructs govt hosp to fill 50% vacant doctors & nurses seats in 4 mos

In an effort to improve healthcare in the state, the Allahabad High Court has instructed government hospitals to fill at least 50% of vacant positions for medical staff in the next 4 months.


With the instructions to improve the health facilities in hospitals and to fill the vacant posts of doctors and staff without delay, Allahabad High Court on 9 March instructed to fill 50 percent of vacant posts of doctors and staff in government hospitals in next four months and rest in three months. Court ordered that the supply of quality medicines in government hospitals should also be ensured and instructed CAG to complete the audit of government hospitals and medical care centers in two months. Special audit team will audit the availability of funds and its utilisation of ten years.

The court said if any regularity will be found actions should be taken against concerned officials. After main hospitals, district hospitals should be audited in two months following which audits of community and primary health centers should be done. Whole process should be completed in on year. Non practicing allowance should be recovered from the government doctors involved in private practice, Court instructed adding that departmental actions should be taken against the officials responsible for the bad condition of Allahabad Trauma Center.

The court also instructed that state government employees and their family members should get treatment in government hospitals and no one should get VIP treatment. The Court also instructed to form a vigilance team to curb on private practice of government doctors and regular audits of government hospitals through CAG. Taking serious note on treatment of government officials in private hospitals, the Court said that they should not get any compensation from government.

Division court of Justice Sudhir Agarwal and Justice Ajit Kumar passed this order on Public Interest Litigation filed by Snehlata Singh and others. Court has instructed Chief Justice to implement the instructions and submit the progress report on September 25, 2018. Court has also sought report on the status of Moti Lal Nehru Medical College.
