The Delhi Commission for Women has issued notice to a Delhi government hospital over death of a minor girl allegedly due to unavailability of timely treatment, the DCW said in a statement on November 28.

According to a media report, the three-year-old girl was diagnosed with pneumonia and was admitted to the hospital on November 19. Her condition deteriorated on November 25. Taking suo-motu cognisance of the report that the minor girl died due to unavailability of timely treatment in the hospital, the DCW has issued notice to Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya, the statement said.

It cited the report according to which doctors advised to admit the girl in an intensive care unit (ICU), but there was no ICU bed available in the hospital and the minor died late night on November 25. DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal has expressed anguish over the death of the girl and sought explanation from the hospital.

The DCW has asked the hospital to give reasons for not providing ICU to the minor and not referring her to another hospital. Also, the DCW asked for details of persons responsible for the death of the girl, details of inquiry conducted in the matter and action taken against responsible persons have been sought. The DCW has also sought information about availability of ICU and steps taken by the hospital to do away with the scarcity of ICUs in the hospital.
