Tight clothes are infertility culprits: PGIMER study

UNI Oct 16, 2018

Tight clothes are suffering fertility issues, because tight underlines are probed to be one of the contributing factors of Males Infertility. It is not only well researched by PGIMER, Chandigarh but also has been seen in our OPD observations said Senior Consultant IVF Specialist Dr Jasneet Kaur of Milann Fertility Center, Chandigarh and Ambala.

Dr Jasneet Kaur says, “We are obsessed with women’s fertility but it is equally important to assess male fertility as well”. She said this while addressing press persons. Dr Jasneet narrated further that “there are certain silent killers that the general public should be warned about. These “other” factors are present in the environment and slowly undermine fertility. These are known as Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs).

Its surprising to know that these toxicants are present in things we use in our daily life including plastic containers, plastic bottles, cosmetics, perfumes, vegetables sprayed with pesticides, food products with preservatives and additives, thermal paper etc. All these agents have substances like BPA, phthalates which mimic the action of various hormones in our body and are known to decrease the semen counts and affect fertility, both in males and females.” Men are suggested to wear loose clothes when we find sperm related problems in them.

As per PGIMER Chandigarh study, it is said that Tight or skinny jeans can cause twisted testicles, bladder weakness, urinary tract infections and even low sperm count. It is discovered one in ten men have experienced unpleasant side effects from skinny jeans. Also, the contribution of Laptops is high in infertility amongst the couples. It reached internal operating temperatures of over 70 degrees Celsius.

And because they are frequently positioned close to the scrotum, they required the user to sit with his thighs close together to balance the machine, trapping the scrotum between the thighs. We make our patients avoid tight jeans and asked them to wear Pyjamas or loose clothes as tight clothes are contributing factors in causing infertility.

Dr Jasneet Kaur emphasized on steps one should take to prevent these substances from affecting fertility. “We offer certain advices to the couples coming to our OPDs. These include avoid drinking water from plastic bottles and minimize the use of plastics in our day to day life”. She stressed that we should switch over to use glass, ceramic and stainless steel instead of plastics.”
