5 liver transplant and 1 kidney transplant within 6 days: Sahyadri Hospital

Sahyadri Hospitals team has successfully performed five liver and one kidney transplant operations within six days.
Its expert team operated upon patients suffering from Wilson’s disease, cryptogenic, liver and kidney failure and liver cirrhosis between September 20 and 25, an official statement from hospital stated.On September 20, the team performed its first operation on a 17-year-old girl suffering from Wilson’s disease who underwent an eight-hour-long surgery for liver transplant, with the donor’s liver being procured from a cadaver.The second surgery was performed on September 21, where a 61-year-old patient suffering from liver and kidney failure, was operated upon for two transplants liver and kidney.
The third surgery was performed on September 22, where a 42-year-old liver cirrhosis patient received his organ replacement from a living donor and surgery was completed in 22 hours.It the fourth patient a 65-year-old liver cirhosls patient underwent the transplant procedure on September 23 and despite a complication due to Portal Vein Thrombosis, the operation was successful.The last procedure was the liver transplant of a 35 year old man and took 22 hours.
Dr Bipin Vibhute, liver transplant surgeon, said of five liver transplants perform, two were from living donors, while three were cadaveric donor transplants.
