34 swine flu cases found positive at TMC in January : CMO

During the current month three swine flu patients died among 34 swine flu positive cases, who reported in Dr Rajinder Prasad Govt. Medical College at Tanda, among the victims two were from Kangra district and one from a nearby district.


Kangra district Chief Medical Officer Dr Gurdharshan Gupta told UNI here on Wednesday that 34 swine flu patients were detected positive in Dr Rajinder Prasad Govt Medical College at Tanda during current January month which included 27 from Kangra district and 7 from other nearby districts.

He said that with the death of two patients during January month the remaining 25 patients were given the treatment and presently five patients were under treatment in the isolation ward of Dr Rajinder Prasad Govt Medical College at Tanda, Kangra has the highest number of swine flu patients reported in the current month which touched 27 followed by Shimla which recorded 21 swine flu cases.

CMO said that all the hospitals have been put on an alert for dealing with the swine flu cases. He said that a district level meeting of the BMOs, SMOs and doctors from Indian system of medicines was held today so that the latest guidelines of the central government were passed on to them regarding the preventive measures and treatment steps to be taken in the Swine flu cases. He said that 60 doctors from all over the district participated in the meeting cum workshop.

Dr Gupta said that the doctors were directed to further accelerate the intensive awareness campaign among the people so that they were not scared of the disease. Meanwhile Dr Bhanu Awasthi, Principal DRPG medical college Tanda, said that people were not supposed to get panicky about Swine flu as it is mostly affecting only elderly persons and infants and the treatment was readily available.

He said that Swine flu is affecting elderly people who are diabetic, patients with kidney failure and chest infections. He said that common people should not feel scared about the disease as it is as common as ‘common cold’. Sources said that there were ten deaths due to the swine flu in the state which included three in Tanda medical college.
