Government plans to introduce Rota Virus Vaccine

The government has planned to introduce Rota Virus Vaccine (RVV) in the Immunization programme shortly.


An official release said in Puducherry on 20th August that, Rota Virus infection can cause severe diarrhea in early childhood period by not responding to the treatment. The effective way of preventing Rota Virus infection was oral administration of RVV at 6,10 and 14th week of age. The government has taken steps to provide RVV along with the other vaccines to all beneficiaries free of cost. The Health department has completed capacity building training workshop for health department officials and field staffs regarding launching of RVV.

In this regard the “State Task Force Committee Meeting” has been convened on 19th August in which higher officials from Health Department and supporting departments participated and discussed about introduction of RVV.
