Thane doctor gets 1-yr jail term in molestation case

The Thane District court has dismissed an appeal by a doctor, 44, convicted for a criminal offence by a magistrate and upheld the order of conviction.


In his order, the Additional Sessions Judge Rajesh S Gupta had upheld the one year rigorous imprisonment to doctor Jayant S Jadhav for an offence punishable under section 354 of the IPC. The judge also fined the doctor a sum of Rs 3,000 and in default another three months RI.

The Additional Public Prosecutor Rekha Hiwrale appearing for the state told this correspondent that the case dates back to May 18, 2013 when the complainant a woman aged 54 then was admitted to a hospital ICU ward for treatment. The accused was on duty at 0300 hours. Under the pretext of checking the patient, he molested her. After about one and half hour, he repeated the same act on the patient complainant, it was stated.

The victim patient filed a complaint after which the accused doctor was booked under section 354 of the IPC and arrested by the Naupada police. He was tried in the courts and the FCJM of the Thane court held him guilty and sentenced him on December 27, 2016. The doctor filed the present appeal which is dismissed by the court vide its order of August 13,2019.
