What is the preferred resuscitation fluid for patients with severe sepsis and septic shock?
The Journal of Emergency Medicine Nov 10, 2017
Winters ME, et al. - This article was performed to assess the preferred intravenous fluid for the resuscitation of patients with severe sepsis and septic shock. Researchers identified crystalloids as the preferred solution for the resuscitation of these patients. Patient-centered outcomes could be improved with the use of balanced crystalloids, thus they recommended considering balanced crystalloids as an alternative to normal saline, if available. They gained strong evidence suggesting that semi-synthetic colloids decreased survival thus ought to be avoided. The role of albumin in the resuscitation of patients with severe sepsis and sepsis remained unknown.
