Clinical Endocrinology Oct 16, 2017

Alonso GT, et al. - The experts undertook this study to assess the change in BMI Z score and predictors of weight gain in children treated for Graves' disease. During treatment for Graves' disease, weight gain was common in children, and many children become overweight or obese during treatment. A greater degree of hyperthyroidism at presentation and time of radioactive iodine administration (RAI) and younger age were included as risk factors. Also, weight lost upon presentation could predict greater weight gain. Control of subsequent hypothyroidism did not seem to affect weight gain.
