Vitamin D is related to hand grip strength in adult men aged 50 years and over: A population study from the TCLSIH cohort study
Clinical Endocrinology Feb 24, 2019
Wang J, et al. - Using age 50 as a cutoff, researchers examined the correlation between vitamin D and handgrip strength (HGS). For this population-based, cross-sectional study, they involved 5,102 participants (2,911 males, 2,191 females) from the TCLSIH Cohort. Using an enzyme immunoassay, serum concentration of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) was measured. They measured HGS with a hydraulic hand-held dynamometer. Findings suggested a significant association between serum 25(OH)D concentration and HGS in males over 50 years of age, regardless of confounding factors. However, with males aged below 50 years and females in the whole age range, there were no relationships between serum 25(OH)D concentration and HGS.
