Very long-term prognosis in patients with right ventricular apical pacing for sick sinus syndrome
Heart Apr 30, 2019
Nakasuka K, et al. - In patients with sick sinus syndrome (SSS) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) >35%, researchers assessed the link between right ventricular (RV) apical pacing and cardiovascular events (CEs) in a retrospective manner. Participants were 532 consecutive pacemaker recipients with SSS and LVEF >35%, who were classified based on the mean cumulative per cent RV apical ventricular pacing (mean %VP): <50%; non-VP group vs ≥50%; VP group. They used Kaplan-Meier analysis to compare CE occurrence between two groups. Findings revealed a poor cardiac prognosis of patients with RV apical pacing. However, no prognostic significance of RV apical pacing was evident in patients with SSS with LVEF >35%, following the adjustment for other predictors of CE.
