Validating the role of ABO blood type in risk of perioperative venous thromboembolism after radical cystectomy
World Journal of Urology Jun 10, 2018
Bhanvadia S, et al. - Authors ascertained the association between ABO blood type and risk of VTE post-radical cystectomy (RC) in a large retrospective database. They identified the patients with urothelial bladder cancer (UBC) who underwent RC (intent-to-cure) for whom ABO blood type was available between 2003 and 2015 from their IRB-approved database. An independent non-modifiable risk factor for postoperative VTE after RC was non-O blood type. In this high-risk group, consideration of more comprehensive counseling and thromboprophylaxis was suggested.
