Tarpada SP, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers investigated if supine lateral radiographs vs traditional lateral flexion-extension radiographs increase the amount of segmental instability that can be seen in single-level lumbar degenerative spondylolisthesis. For 59 patients, they added supine lateral radiographs to the routine evaluation (standing neutral/flexion/extension lateral radiographs) of symptomatic degenerative spondylolisthesis. Compared to the extension radiograph, supine radiograph displayed more reduction in anterolisthesis. Segmental mobility could be better assessed when evaluating degenerative spondylolisthesis by incorporating a supine lateral radiograph rather than an extension radiograph.
