Rheumatology Aug 01, 2018
Kuo CF, et al. - Authors evaluated whether or not gout is an independent risk factor for total joint replacement (TJR) and whether this risk was reduced by urate-lowering treatment (ULT). A significant TJR risk, which was not reduced by current ULT, was conferred by gout; based on the evidence from two nation populations of this population-based study. In the patients with gout vs those without, the incidence of TJR after a gout diagnosis was higher, with adjusted HRs of 1.56 in Taiwan and 1.14 in the UK.
