Upregulation of STC2 in colorectal cancer and its clinicopathological significance

OncoTargets and Therapy Feb 22, 2019

Zhang C, et al. - Researchers investigated the clinicopathological importance and prognostic role of stanniocalcin 2 (STC2) in colorectal cancer (CRC). They used data from the Gene Expression Omnibus and The Cancer Genome Atlas to determine STC2 expression, and used data from their institutional medical center for validation. They also performed univariate and multivariate analyses to examine the link between prognostic factors and survival outcome. In the bioinformatics analysis, a remarkably increased STC2 was found in CRC vs that in normal tissues. A shorter overall survival was observed among CRC patients with high STC2 expression. Overall, a significant role of STC2 in CRC progression and prognosis was demonstrated. Of note, STC2 may have utility as a biomarker for survival prediction.
