Understanding TB transmission in the UK: Findings from six years of MIRU-VNTR strain typing, 2010 to 2015
American Journal of Epidemiology Jun 13, 2018
Davidson JA, et al. - Researchers analyzed trends in the proportion of clustering of tuberculosis (TB) patients by using all culture-confirmed strain typed TB notifications from the UK between 2010 and 2015. They also used multivariable logistic regression to determine the characteristics of individuals and clusters associated with recent TB transmission in the UK. Data showed that between 2010 and 2015, a decrease in TB transmission in the UK was reported. During this time, a decline in TB incidence was also reported. Those deserving targeted cluster investigation and extended contact tracing include subjects at risk of being in a transmission chain, including UK born individuals with social risk factors in clusters with a high proportion of patients having pulmonary disease.
