Ultrasonography-guided core needle biopsy of cervical lymph nodes for diagnosing head and neck lymphoma compared with open surgical biopsy: Exploration for factors that shape diagnostic yield

American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Jul 20, 2018

Kwon M, et al. - In head and neck (HN) lymphoma, researchers assessed the diagnostic yields of ultrasonography-guided core needle biopsy (USG-CNB) and open surgical biopsy (OSB). They also characterized factors that shape USG-CNB diagnostic yield. They analyzed all consecutive patients who were diagnosed with HN lymphoma in their hospital. For diagnosing HN lymphoma involving cervical LN, first-line USG-CNB was less frequently successful than OSB. They noted higher mean maximal standardized uptake value of LN on PET-CT in confirmatively diagnosed subjects vs deferred counterparts on USG-CNB.
