Type of menopause, age at menopause, and risk of developing obstructive sleep apnea in postmenopausal women

Huang T, et al. - Physicians analyzed the association between the type of menopause and age at menopause, which affected postmenopausal hormonal milieu with the risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in postmenopausal women. As compared with natural menopause, surgical menopause was independently correlated with higher OSA risk in postmenopausal women. Findings provided further evidence for a role of sex hormones, especially abrupt hormonal changes, in modulating OSA risk.
