Type 2 diabetes remission 1 year after an intensive lifestyle intervention: A secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Jul 05, 2019
Ried-Larsen M, et al. - Researchers ascertained if intensive lifestyle intervention induces partial or complete type 2 diabetes (T2D) remission in this secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial. For this analysis, participants with non-insulin dependent T2D (duration < 10 years) were randomly assigned (2:1, stratified by sex, from April 2015 to August 2016) to a lifestyle intervention group (n=64) or a standard care group (n=34). In 23% of all participants, an intensive 12-month exercise-based lifestyle intervention was linked to non-significant partial or complete T2D remission compared with only 7% of participants receiving standard care. However, the difference in this relatively small sample size did not reached statistical significance. Thus, according to the authors, further studies are required to maintain a lifestyle change.
