Trends in the incidence of retinopathy of prematurity over a 10-year period
International Ophthalmology Jun 22, 2018
Chow PPC, et al. - Researchers ascertained and evaluated the trends in the incidence of retinopathy of prematurity over a 10-year period in a tertiary hospital in Hong Kong. Across the 10-year period, experts noted a decreasing trend in the incidence of any ROP, whereas the incidence of Type 1 ROP remained stable at 4.5%. The factors that led to the trend were not clear. Findings suggested a probability of improved prenatal care, changing the proportion of cases with different birth weight and gestational age, oxygenation level practice in neonatal unit to contribute in the decreasing trend. According to local experience, revision of screening criteria could be made to maximise cost-effectiveness.
