Trends in substance use admissions among older adults

Chhatre S et al. – In this study, the authors analyzed the trends in admissions for substance abuse treatment among adults aged ≥55 years. The authors concluded that the changing pattern of demographics and substance use in older adults indicate that different types of psychological, social, and physiological needs will arise. Hence, integrated, multidisciplinary, and tailored approaches for prevention and treatment will be required to address the growing epidemic of substance abuse in older adults.
