Gynecologic Oncology Dec 10, 2021

Shin DW, Bae J, Ha J, et al. - Researchers sought to describe the 20-year trends in incidence and survival of vulvar cancer in Korea using data from the Korean Central Cancer Registry.

  • During the 1999–2018 period, vulvar cancer was diagnosed in a total of 2,221 patients, with an age-standardized incidence rate of 0.32 per 100,000 person-years.

  • Korea showed a different pattern of incidence of vulvar cancer from that observed in the US and Europe.

  • There appeared a relatively low and stable incidence of squamous cell carcinoma.

  • An increase was observed in incidence of basal cell carcinoma and Paget's disease.

  • No improvement in survival occurred in the past two decades.

  • After surviving for 5 years, the patients can be considered cured.
