Treatment delay and associated factors among adults with drug resistant tuberculosis at treatment initiating centers in the Amhara regional state, Ethiopia
BMC Infectious Diseases Jun 06, 2019
Tefera KT, et al. - Researchers examined adult drug resistant tuberculosis patients in the Amhara Regional State, Ethiopia for treatment delay and related factors. Observations from this institution based cross-sectional study revealed that following drug-resistant tuberculosis diagnosis, treatment was initiated in a median time of 8 (IQR: 3–37) days. Treatment delays were noted to be associated with being diagnosed by Line probe assay, culture, and history of injectable anti-tuberculosis drugs. These findings emphasize the necessity for universal accesses to rapid molecular diagnostic tests, such as Gene Xpert, and need for the Programmatic Management Committee of Drug Resistant Tuberculosis team to promptly decide to minimize unnecessary delays.
