Trajectories of body mass index among Canadian seniors and associated mortality risk
BMC Public Health Dec 08, 2017
Wang M, et al. - The experts undertook this study to characterize the heterogeneity in body mass index (BMI) trajectories and to examine the mortality risk associated with these BMI trajectories in Canadian seniors. Depending on gender, the course of BMI over time in Canadian seniors appeared to follow 1 of 4 different patterns. Lowest risk of mortality was observed in men who were overweight at age 65 years and lost weight over time. Interestingly, different mortality risks were found among obese women with decreasing BMI, depending on their chronic health conditions. The findings of this study gave new insights about the associations between BMI and mortality risk.
