Tooth color as a predictor of oral health-related quality of life in young adults

Journal of Prosthodontics Apr 26, 2019

Pavicic DK, et al. - Researchers examined how the objective parameters of color of one's own teeth affect the social and emotional dimensions of young adults’ lives. From the University of Rijeka, Croatia, 134 students [65% female; aged 19 to 28 years (median 21)] who had six intact maxillary anterior teeth without restorations or severe malocclusions and healthy gingiva with no signs of inflammation comprised the sample. They used Pearson correlations to explore linear relationships between elements of tooth color and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). They employed ANOVA with a Tukey post hoc test to examine if OHRQoL is nonlinearly correlated with categories of color elements. Results revealed no accurate predictive value of objective, measurable, quantitative parameters of tooth color for psychosocial dimensions of OHRQoL in dentate young adults.
