Thyroid function, body mass index, and metabolic risk markers in euthyroid adults: A cohort study
BMC Endocrine Disorders Jun 13, 2019
Xu R, et al. - Via including 16,975 subjects (aged 18–80 years) who attended the Health Management Center of Tongji Hospital, Wuhan, China, researchers evaluated how thyroid function was linked to underweight, overweight, or obesity, and metabolic risk markers in adults. Investigators found that candidates who were overweight or obese had elevated free triiodothyronine (fT3) serum concentration, high fT3/free thyroxin (fT4) ratio, and low fT4 concentration. Participants with low weight had high fT4 concentrations and low fT3 concentrations. Thus, connections have been recognized between thyroid hormones and metabolic risk markers, suggesting that thyroid function may be one factor influencing body weight and obesity co-morbidities.
