Three-year findings on intraocular pressure changes in The Prospective Retinal and Optic Nerve Vitrectomy Evaluation (PROVE) Study
Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Jul 03, 2019
Patel SN, et al. - In this prospective, controlled, observational analysis, researchers reported three-year intraocular pressure (IOP) outcomes of the Prospective Retinal and Optic Nerve Vitrectomy Evaluation (PROVE) study. The study sample included 80 eyes of 40 candidates undergoing routine pars plana vitrectomy. Participants in the study had a preoperative evaluation and multimodal testing of the study (surgical) and fellow (control) eye. This test was repeated postoperatively at 3 months and then for 3 years annually. Investigators found that 32 of 40 patients completed a 3-year follow-up. Baseline subgroup analysis of pseudophakic eyes exhibited a significant increase in IOP from 14.3 mm Hg ± 2.9 mm Hg at baseline to 16.8 mm Hg ± 3.2 mm Hg at 3-year follow-up. According to this 3-year results, compared to baseline following routine vitrectomy, IOP is consistently and significantly elevated in pseudophakic eyes. Fellow eyes haven't experienced any significant baseline change.
